Graduate School Welcomes International Students for Autumn 2017
On the morning of September 22nd, the Graduate School of Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (GSCAAS) held an opening ceremony and Freshmen Orientation of international students for the 2017 autumn semester. Professor Luo Changfu, Vice President of the school, Dr. Wang Xunqing, Director of International Education Office, the office staffs and more than 120 freshmen attended the event.
Mr. Luo Changfu represented a warm welcome for the new international students on behalf of GSCAAS. He briefly introduced CAAS and highlighted its graduate education. He encouraged all the students to cherish the opportunity to learn Chinese culture and professional knowledge and adapt to new learning and living environment as soon as possible. He also advised the students to abide by Chinese laws, regulations and the provisions of the school. Furthermore, Mr. Luo delivered best wishes for all freshmen to enjoy their study in CAAS, to live a well-balanced life, and to embrace a wonderful future with dreams.

Mr. Wang Xunqing introduced the postgraduate education, international student education and international student management in the school. Staffs from the International Education Office introduced in details on Chinese laws and regulations, registration, scholarships, course and training procedures, studentship, graduation, rewards and punishment, visa, accommodation, health insurance, campus safety and other related requirements. The office staffs briefly and clearly answered the questions about the family visit, campus internet, graduation requirements, social practice and other issues. The orientation also elected the class committees of the four classes of international students in the autumn semester.
By attending this orientation, freshmen have a comprehensive understanding of the laws and regulations, training procedure and requirements for study. They are more familiar with their classmates and learning environment, laying a good foundation for their future study and research life. Students expressed their gratitude to the Chinese government and the support from the graduate school. Since their admission, they have received enthusiastic attention, guidance and help from the school and the staffs. These freshmen have gradually adapted to the campus life. They will study Chinese culture and professional knowledge, spread friendship and agricultural technology at home and abroad.
In 2017, the school continued to open enrolment all year round and admission for Spring and Autumn. There are 154 international students enrolled in this semester, 129 of them have registered, and 97% are doctoral and master students, covering 29 majors, from 32 different countries in Asia, Africa, South America, Europe and Oceania. In this semester, the graduate school made remarkable achievements in expanding enrolment scale, optimizing the students’ structure and improving the quality of students. These achievements realized the rapid development of international education; effectively enhance our international education services to serve the country “the Belt and Road Initiative” and agricultural "go global" strategy.
