Mr. Niu Dun Delivered a Topic-Specific Lecture on International Agricultural Cooperation and Exchange in China
On April 30, Mr. Niu Dun, former Deputy Minister of Agriculture, former Permanent Representative of the People's Republic of China to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), and Ambassador, was invited to deliver a topic-specific lecture on international agricultural cooperation and exchange in China in the new era, at the Graduate School of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (GSCAAS). Professor Jiang Meilin, Secretary of the Party Committee of GSCAAS, Professor Wen Yang, Assistant Dean, faculty representatives, and more than 100 international students from both online and offline participated in the event.
In the lecture, using a lot of case studies, Mr. Niu provided an in-depth analysis of the overall assessment, significant achievements, key challenges, and the importance of adhering to China specific development path in China's agricultural international cooperation and exchange. Mr. Niu emphasized that international agricultural cooperation is a crucial action to implement the outcomes of Chinese state leaders' visits and serves as the main force behind China's agricultural "going global" strategy. This cooperation has earned high praise from international organizations such as the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the World Food Programme (WFP), and the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD). Mr. Niu also highlighted the necessity of integrating China's national conditions into international agricultural cooperation and pursuing a path with Chinese characterisics to agricultural modernization.
During the interactive session of the lecture, Mr. Niu engaged in lively discussions with the audience on topics such as the international promotion of Chinese agricultural technology, cooperation models, the challenges of climate change to agriculture as well as China's role in global agricultural governance.
The lecture is one part of the series of national conditions education activities of GSCAAS for international students. It aims to provide international students with an opportunity to understand China's agricultural international cooperation and to build an interactive platform for promoting agricultural cooperation and exchange along the Belt and Road Initiative. It also supports the cultivation of high-level international agricultural talents who are knowledgeable and friendly towards China.
