A Testament to the Friendly Cooperation in Agricultural Education between China and Africa: A Certificate of Appreciation from Ethiopia
Recently, Tigray Agricultural Research Institute (TARI) of Ethiopia sent a certificate of appreciation, acknowledging the partnership established with the Graduate School of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (GSCAAS). Through academic excellence and tailored programs, the Graduate School has cultivated doctoral students and postdoctoral researchers for TARI, promoting agricultural research and future development in Tigray.
The Tigray Agricultural Research Institute is a governmental comprehensive research institution in Ethiopia, engaged in research on crops, animal husbandry, fisheries, natural resources, agricultural engineering, and agricultural economics and sociology. Currently, there are four students from TARI under the support of Chinese government scholarship pursuing doctoral degrees in Crop Genetic Breeding, Animal Genetic Breeding and Reproduction, Agricultural Entomology and Pest Control, as well as Plant Pathology at GSCAAS. Over the past decade, GSCAAS has cultivated 18 doctors and 3 postdoctoral researchers for TARI. Notably Dr. Gebreamlák Bezábih, under the support of Chinese government scholarship, obtained his doctoral degree in the Rearing of Special-type Economic Animals in 2017 and now is the director general of TARI.
For many years, the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS) has actively served the "Belt and Road" Initiative and China-Africa agricultural cooperation, taking the lead in establishing the China-Africa Agricultural Science and Technology Innovation Alliance. It has cultivated a group of high-level international talents and future leaders who understand and are friendly to China, for universities, research institutions, and government departments in 40 African countries. The certificate of appreciation from TARI is a testament to the achievements of China-Africa agricultural education cooperation and the friendship between China and Africa. Leveraging the education, scientific technology, talents, and international cooperation resources of CAAS, the Graduate School will continue to cultivate more high-level talents in international agricultural science and technology, writing a new chapter in Sino-African agricultural education cooperation, and contributing Chinese wisdom and strength to the sustainable development of African agriculture.
