TIA Professor Kicks off the GSCAAS International Scholar Lecture
On September 11, Tuesday afternoon, professor Holger Meinke, the director of Tasmanian Institute of Agriculture (TIA) made his special academic report, titled as The History & Overview of the Tasmanian Institute of Agriculture, to more than 90 postgraduate students from China and abroad, at the Graduate School of Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences(GSCAAS).
Professor Meinke is an international renowned scientist in agricultural system research, crop physiology, modelling and applied climate research. He had published over 100 papers in international disciplinary and transdisciplinary academic journals.
In his speech, professor Meinke made an introduction about the megatrends and strategic direction of TIA, their cooperative partners, and presented the research highlights to the students. In the Q&A section, professor Meinke answered the questions about the food safety, and how to balance the food production and nature conservation, which enriched the knowledge and enhanced the understanding of students.
This lecture not only introduces the history and overview of TIA to students, but also broadens their horizons, which will contribute to their future studies and development.
Tasmanian Institute of Agriculture (TIA) was established in 1996 as a joint venture between Tasmanian University and Tasmanian government. The purpose of TIA is to advance the innovations in agriculture and food through research and education. The vision of TIA is achieving profitable and sustainable agriculture and a healthy bioeconomy. TIA has more than 130 scientists and technical experts, around 100 PhD students.
