GSCAAS Fellowship Program for Postgraduate Research

 

GSCAAS, the Graduate School of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, founded in 1979, was approved by the State Council of China in 1981 as one of the earliest degree conferral institutions for master’s degree and doctor’s degree. Since its establishment, GSCAAS has been sticking to the principles of “putting the people first”, “regarding research as of prime importance” and “taking quality as top priority”, characterizing in the integration of instructional programs in GSCAAS and the frontier research activities in the CAAS research institutes, and actively probing modes and roads of postgraduate education in R & D institutions. GSCAAS has successfully educated high level talents of agricultural scientific and technological professionals who have been the backbones in various areas and main contributors to the agriculture and economic construction in China.

GSCAAS has established bilateral exchanges and cooperation of various kinds with agricultural R&D institutions, colleges and universities from as many as 60 countries and/or international institutions all over the world.

 

Programs Details

In 2009, GSCAAS launches a funding opportunity through the implementation of the GSCAAS Fellowship Program for Postgraduate Research.

-  The program provides fifteen fellowships to the promising postgraduate students to obtain GSCAAS Master or PhD degrees in the field of Crop Germplasm and Breeding;

-  This is a full Master or PhD program that the fellowships are tenable for a period of three years to a maximum period of four years at the Crop Sciences Research Institute of CAAS;

-  The instruction language is English.

 

Financial Support by GSCAAS

The Fellowship covers the following expenses and stipend and allowances for the awardees upon completion of the fellowship application:

-          Only one journey to Beijing and the return journey to the home country and such travel expenses has been pre-approved by GSCAAS; 

-          A lump-sum settlement of RMB1500 upon completion of registration;

-          A monthly allowance of RMB 2000 and a monthly program research stipend of RMB 1000 during the period of the program or to the date of the awardees’ registration at GSCAAS ceased

-          Overall Insurance & Benefit Plan for People Coming to China

-          GSCAAS will provide the awardees one bed for free in the two-bed room apartment. Request for using the room by himself/herself is responsible for the extra charge.

 

Eligibility

Applicants for the Fellowship must be met the following criteria:

-          Applicants should comes from African countries (other than South African and Egypt) and Asia countries (other than China, Burma and India);

-          Applicants for Master degree must have a Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture and be under the age of 35;

-          Applicants for PhD degree must have a Master’s degree in Agriculture and be under the age of 40;

-          Evidences of proficiency in English.

 

Submitting your Application

Deadline for expressions of interest is 31 July 2009 with the following required documents:

(1) Application Form for Study in CAAS as attached;

(2) Highest diploma (notarized photocopy);

(3) Academic transcripts of the most advanced studies (notarized photocopy);

(4) Two reference letters from at least two Associate Professors or experts with

equal titles in related fields;

(5) A study or research plan (no less than 500 words);

(6) List of publications.

* If any of these documents is written in a language other than English or Chinese, an official certified translation of the document must be included.
